How to Choose Livestock Food

Uncategorized

Livestock nutrition is extremely important so therefore choosing the best livestock food should be done with careful consideration. For the best nutrition possible for your livestock, you need to purchase the freshest foods possible. Feed will last longer when it is kept in a dry and cool location away from the sunlight. Also, it will stay fresher if kept in a barn with a wooden floor away from the wall. If the feed is kept outdoors, the outdoor feed bin should be in the shade. The area where the feed is kept should remain clean at all times and any grain that has fallen should be immediately picked up to keep rodents away.

You should be consistent with the feed store that you use. If you are satisfied with the products they provide, then you are probably better off getting your feed from them stead of purchasing from different feed suppliers. If you are purchasing from a feed store for the first time, you need to look for signs that the feed is not fresh. These signs include discoloration of the feed, feed clumping, a foul smell, visible moth webs or mold that is visible. Some feed stores may have discounted bags of feed that is more than likely safe but the only problem is that the feed may have lost some of its nutritional value. You want to be sure to feed your livestock a consistent diet as they do not take to change very well. Also, abrupt changes in diet can be harmful and even deadly to some livestock.
