SOUTH ROCKWOOD — Three pets died in a house fire that ignited Tuesday afternoon in the Village of South Rockwood. Fire officials said no one was home when the fire ignited at the single-story house on Custer St. near Gildersleeve St.

ALTON — Two pets died and a firefighter was injured when a dryer ignited in an apartment in the Oakwood Estates housing project Tuesday afternoon. Alton Fire Department responded at 12:40 p.m. in the 700 block of Oakwood Road after a neighbor called 911.
