DeSoto County animal rescue shelters are nearly overflowing with animals of all kinds.  Monday, officials said the rate of residents abandoning their pets has risen to levels unseen in recent memory, as the economy takes its toll on both people and animals.

(Raleigh , NC ), December 21, 2009—Presents 4 Pets, a Triangle-area project that collects donated items for animals waiting to be adopted from foster homes and shelters, has announced that donations from its recent campaign raised more than $20,000.
