CLEARWATER - In response to the National Fire Protection Agency’s announcement of July 15 as Pet Safety Day, Clearwater Fire & Rescue is urging Clearwater pet owners to take precautions to keep pets away from hazards that could start a fire and to make provisions for pet evacuations in the event of a fire or other disaster.

Scooter, a dachshund, stands under the protection of Sarge, a German shepherd mix at the animal shelter in Kaiserslautern-Einsiedlerhof. The two were taken to the shelter by an American servicemember who left the country. The shelter is no longer accepting unwanted American pets.
